Helsinki Biennal 2025
Exhibition Period June 8, — September 21, 2025
Carola Grahn presents Veraldan Olmai, a sculptural work on Vallisaari Island that draws on pictorial motifs found on the drumskins of Sámi ceremonial drums. Her participation in the biennial also includes a selection of new works on view at HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
The theme of the biennial’s third edition, Shelter, takes inspiration from the habitat of Vallisaari Island, which has been preserved from human habitation for decades. The biennial reflects on the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world. Moving beyond human-centric perspectives, the featured artworks foreground animals, plants, fungi, insects and minerals. The biennial seeks to forge new spaces of protection and inspire positive environmental action.
Helsinki Biennal 2025 brings togehter 37 artists and collectives on Vallisaari Island, in Esplanade Park, and at HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
Curated by Blanca de la Torre and Kati Kivinen.
